October 21, 2012... The Schedule of The Philippine Civil Service Exam...

Simply Reminding, with a hope that this again helps:

Most Common Mistakes People Make in Multiple Choice Tests Like the CPC Exam

The Civil Service Exam is not a

walk in the park despite it being an open book test. You have 5 hours and 40 minutes to answer 150 multiple choice questions regarding the correct application of CPT, HCPCS Level II procedure and supply codes and ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes. The passing rate for first-time exam takers are almost less than half. With so much pressure to pass the CPC exam, it is easy to fall for simple and common exam mistakes if you're not careful. These mistakes apply in almost any multiple choice tests, so knowing how to avoid them can definitely help you in your effort to become a certified medical coder.

Multiple choice exams are a fact of life. Whether it is for certification, assessment, research, or even in elections, we all have taken multiple choice tests at some point in our lives. Through experience we learn that there are some common themes to the mistakes that people make in these exams.

Listen or read the instructions carefully

You might know what to expect in the exam, but never disadvantage yourself by skipping the instructions. The CPC exam is a proctored exam so listen carefully while the proctor reads the instructions. If you have any doubts or aren't clear about something, make sure to ask before the examination begins. The worst thing you can do about an instruction that you're not clear about is to assume or put if off until later to correct it.

Misreading the question

The questions are there to test your knowledge and skill, not to trick you or see how clever you are. If a question seems easy or straightforward, then just answer it and move on. Sometimes we fall into the trap of over-thinking a question and start to doubt or second-guess ourselves. Given how pressed for time we are in the CPC exam, it is better to move on rather than waste time trying to get the perfect answer.

Answering a question

Before you even enter the exam hall, make sure you have the correct tools for the job. The AAPC certification exam requires you to use #2 pencils, so make sure you have plenty to work with. Bring along several erasers that work best on exam answer sheets, so you don't waste time fiddling and smudging the answer sheet with a bad eraser. Always follow instructions, so make sure you fill in the answers as shown or illustrated to ensure the machine or person who will be checking your answers does not disqualify you.

Leaving an answer blank

Depending on the test, each question might carry different weight or points. The CPC exam questions are all worth the same, despite the effort to answer them. So you need a strategy for answering questions that keep you moving forward. If you have problem answering a tough question, just move on and come back later when you have the time. Even if you ran out of time, leave a few minutes at the end to make an educated guess for all unanswered questions. You're not penalized on wrong answers so leaving it blank is the worst you can do.

Letting the pressure get to you

You spent a lot of time, money, and effort to prepare for the CPC exam, so understandably there is a lot of pressure riding on it to pass and get certified so you can move on with your life. But if you let it get to you during the exam, mistakes are sure to follow. Learn to control your emotions and relax. Come up with a plan and strategy for time management and answering questions and stick to it. There are plenty of cases where people who are under too much pressure and think too hard about the answers make simple mistakes like:

1. Filling in the wrong answer.
2. Getting the question numbers wrong in the answer sheet.
3. Ignored or forgot about the clock.
4. Filling up the wrong name or details in the form.

Hopefully now that you know some of the most common mistakes you can make in a multiple choice exam like the CPC exam, you can avoid it come exam time. The key is to be prepared and relax so you can focus.

Special Tips:
When you encounter difficult questions, these tips are going to be very handy especially as you go through your Praxis test preparations.
  • Cancel out choices that are incorrect.
  • Give less consideration to options that have ABSOLUTE words like all, always or not. They're almost always the wrong option.
  • When you know that two or more of the choices are correct, the all of the above option is a strong possibility.
  • If they require number answers, consider the mid-range numbers and cross out the highest and lowest options.
  • Check for options that are the complete opposite of each other. Chances are one of them is the right answer.

Entrance to government was cited by almost three-fourths of the passers as their main reason for taking the career service examination. They prefer work in the areas of human resource, social science and welfare service, general administrative service, financial service, mathematics, physical and biological science service, and tourism and industry service.

In terms of employment, there were 3,215 passers who came from the private sector and 2,275 from the government. Those self-employed and those working in non-government organizations numbered 489 and 109, respectively. Majority of passers, numbering 7,845, were unemployed.

If you want to learn to be GET A HIGH CHANCE OF PASSING THE EXAM or if you still want to be a better student, to have nice, neat organized notes, and impress academics by perfect attendance, there are much better books on the market for you. But if you have a real intent on making something of yourself that is beyond being just a good REVIEWEE or STUDENT, and moving forward and passing those exams , if your motivated and honest enough with yourself to know you need help on the big day then this book is for you!

This is the most closely guarded secret in the academic world.

DON’T YOU DESERVE THE BEST???
DON’T YOU DESERVE ONE FLYING CHANCE AT HOPE, AT GETTING THIS THING RIGHT THIS TIME?

SO NOW you have three options…

1: you can do nothing and imagine or dream of a better student life and the chance of maybe getting the right questions and passing the exam

2: you can keep going with the way you are doing things now and maybe get through them. Trouble is, it may work and the competition is out there. It helps a bit but it won’t do the job for long

3: or you can go ahead and get this book and Pass those exams!!!

And look next year you could just be a year older, with the same old problems, maybe doing the same subjects again with a younger crowd and different set of friends while others move on ahead in life, promising yourself that one day you might do something about it. Or you could be up there on the podium, getting your graduation, and looking at the world through a whole new perspective, knowing that you nailed those exams, you passed the test, your way, with the marks you wanted, on your own terms. And that feeling, that degree, those results are indelibly printed as letters after your name and can never ever be taken away from you!...

Make that one day today.

Usually Many Takers Don’t Prepare Seriously For Eligibility Exams Hence FAILED!

Only 11.53% passed civil service exam
ONLY 11.53% PASSED CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION
By Michael Punongbayan (The Philippine Star) Updated January 06, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (14) View comments

MANILA, Philippines - Out of 94,251 examinees, only 10,866 or 11.53 percent passed the civil service examinations held last Oct. 16 for individuals who want to start a career in government.

Results released by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) yesterday showed that 83,385 takers flunked the written tests.

In terms of regional performance, Metro Manila got the highest passing rate for the professional level at 17.97 percent or 2,113 out of 11,758 examinees, and the sub-professional level at 15.45 percent or 518 out of 3,352 examinees.

Other regions of the country with notable passing rate for the professional level include Central Visayas (15.06 percent), Central Luzon (13.39 percent), Western Visayas (12.26 percent), Cordillera Administrative Region (12.08 percent), and Southern Tagalog (11.87 percent), and for the sub-professional level, Cagayan (13.53 percent), Davao Peninsula (13.24 percent), Central Luzon (12.70 percent), Central Visayas (12.52 percent) and CAR (12.17 percent).

Almost 75 percent of the passers cited entrance to government service as their reason for taking the career service examinations.

Statistics further reveal that among the number of professional test passers, 4,735 or 52.31 percent were unemployed while 1,023 passers of the sub-professional level, 56.36 percent, were out of work.

Some 2,649 passers came from the private sector, 1,791 from government and 100 from non-government organizations, while 410 were self-employed.

Female passers at 6,641 covering both examination levels outnumbered male passers by 58.08 percent which totaled only 4,201.

Results show that those who passed were relatively young, with those in the age bracket 18-24 years old numbering 7,455, followed by those in the 25-31 age bracket at 2,441, topping the list.

CSC chair Francisco Duque III said many are flunking the civil service examinations because they underestimate the tests.

“Usually many takers don’t prepare seriously for our eligibility exams and therefore fail,” he told The STAR, explaining why only about 10 percent of takers make it.

“Also, the CSC must ensure that test questions are constantly improved and upgraded to current standards,” Duque said.

Edgardo Almonte from Aroroy, Masbate and Kathlene Luz Bugarin from Cardona, Rizal obtained the highest scores in the career service written examinations.

Almonte garnered a rating of 88.23 for the professional test while Bugarin topped the sub-professional test with an 87.34 rating.

Completing the list of Top 10 passers for the professional level are Justine Lara Millare (National Capital Region), 87.74; Katrina Mae Santos (NCR), 87.72; Alyzia Andrea Adorna (NCR), 87.68; Kitz Kevin Saberon (Central Visayas), 87.66; Kim Arveen Patria (NCR), 87.62; Elmer Peramo (Southern Tagalog), 87.57; Yvanne Paolo Yutuc (S. Tagalog), 87.53; Eumir Alexis Angeles (NCR), 87.51; and Oilegor Cash Apili (Ilocos Region), 87.45.

For the sub-professional test, Michael de Leon (Central Luzon), 87.26; Justin Alick Cordova (Western Visayas), 87.06; Joseph Czar Delson II (CAR), 86.59; Yvette Rabuco (W. Visayas), 86.25; Julie Rose Opada (C. Visayas), 86.21; Donna Estrella Monreal (Ilocos), 86.18; Anna Dominique Obligar (NCR), 86.14; Liezl Fabro (S. Tagalog), 86.09; and Kissha Albajera (S. Tagalog), 86.05.

The CSC said those who pass the career service examination earn a Career Service Eligibility which is one of the basic requirements for permanent appointment to first and second level positions in government not covered by Bar, Board and special laws.
